For the most part My weblog is used. And wordpress has all the tools I need for the rest of the site. So I’m considering moving my weblog from http://weblog.rafieksilver.com to http://www.rafieksilver.com
Make the weblog my main site. There are a few thing I can’t do with wordpress but there are always ways to solve thse problems.
For example: The photo gallery; I love to use is coppermine. For as far as the internet has told me there is no wordpress/coppermine bridge.
I think I’m gonna get ditch the guestbook. People can comment in any post they want. Do I need a FAQ section??? How many Questions could somebody have about a personal site??? So out with the FAQ page. I used to have a yahoo like link section. Bould in PHPhoo. I’m not sure I want to ditch it. But I’m also not sure I want to use it. So that is in the maybe pile.
So far these will be the changes:

  • (sub) domain change.
  • Coppermine gallery is making a come back.
  • Guestbook and FAQ will be removed.
  • Portfolio will return.

The only thing I’m not really sure of is the links page. But untile I know if I want it it will stay on the shelf.

Now on another note. I’m back on my coffee addiction. I don’t sleep well, especially in the weekend (party time) and I have to work during the week. So after I had a party weekend I need something to stay awake on mondays (like garfield said: I hate mondays). And coffee is my drug of choice. At the moment I’m up to 4 cups of coffee a day. I think if I was gonna have to loos a drug addiction It would go easier then losing my coffee addiction. I’m smelling the coffee now. Until my next post, I’m gonna get a cup of coffee :) :)

Now I’m gonna force myself to work on it.

I’ve made a complete backup of my site, of everything on my server. Even the databases. I took the site off. Delete every thing EXCEPT a few files and folders needed for other projects.

With my site offline I am forcing myself to begin working on the redesign.

I hope it doesn’t take to long, but I know myself.

Or integrate the rest of my site in my weblog.

I have tried both of them (on my testing server) and I’m not satisfied with the results.
So I’m still looking for a good looking solution.

I’ve found a solution for wordpress integration in joomla and mambo. But I’m not gonna use web community software for a personal site.
Come on, I’m a web designer so I have to be able to design my own site without downloading a CMS and making my own template…

It is easier to use mambo, joomla or something like that. But I’ve never been a guy that automatically goes for easy. But we’ll see what happens.

The people who only use my RSS feed don’t see a difference.

I have changed the look for a few reasons.

  • I was bored with the old look.
  • The old theme was not wordpress widget ready.
  • I found a widget ready theme I like more

Maybe not the most professional reasons to change the look. But hey this is my personal weblog.

I’m was thinking of finishing it by making a header. But the black background without a header looks just fine to me.

Maybe I’ll put the header, you never know.

This is the only word I could find for my situation. I’m in the (re)designing progress of my site, In my head I have a design I like, but when I develop the site I don’t like it. In my head it looks perfect. On the screen it looks like the one in my head, but I don’t like it. I’m starting to think I have multiple personalities. One designs and the other decides he doesn’t like it. So now I’m gonna try th make a third design, hope my other personality likes it this time. :(

If I was developing a new site I would have to take the following steps.

  • Understanding wat the target audience for the site.
  • Understanding the message I want to bring to the target audience.
  • Deciding what kind of scripts I want to use in the site. And why.
  • Designing the site. The design has to correspont with the target audience and the message. For example. If you want a macho heavy metal site, you do not make a design that includes pink bunnies. :)
  • Developing the site. Including the scripts etc.
  • Testing.
  • Testing.
  • Testing.
  • Launching the site.

In my case I already know the target audience and my message. All I have to do is:

  • Deciding what scripts to use.
  • Designing the site.
  • Developing the site.
  • Testing
  • Testing
  • Migrating the data from the old site.
  • Testing
  • Testing
  • Launching the site.

Piece of cake.
